ISLEPACT's ACHIEVEMENTS

  • 64 insular communities signed the Pact of Islands
  • 56 Islands Sustainable Energy Action Plans were completed
  • 53 project proposals analysed; 12 are already on-going, 20 are in negotiations with banks/investors and 21 are project ideas that will be proposed for financing. These projects, if implemented before 2020, have the potential to save more than 18 million tonnes of CO2 per year, equivalent to more than 30% of the total CO2 emissions of Denmark in 2010. This number represents a combined 25% CO2 emissions reduction for the 53 insular communities that have already finalised and are in the process of implementing their ISEAPs, meeting the main objective of the project, i.e. to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 20% by 2020.
  • A number of software tools and methodologies to help new signatories develop their own energy models, ISEAPs and Bankable Projects
  • The recognition of the role of island communities in the mobilisation against global warming by the European Parliament which in its Declaration 37/2011 recognised the Pact of Islands as an EU initiative parallel to the Covenant of Mayors.
