The main achievements of the projects can be summarised as follows:
- The preparation and the signing of the Pact of Islands by sixty four (64) insular communities, by far exceeding the expectations of the Consortium;
- The preparation of fifty six (56) ISEAPs again by far exceeding the target of 20 ISEAPs set in the Inception Report;
- Three workshops on how to perform a preliminary and a detailed or "deep" assessment have been held in Brussels, Gotland and Canary Islands. All Islands have made both preliminary and deep assessments of environmental and socio-economic impact of their chosen projects.
- The review of 99 projects and the analysis of 53 retained projects for bankability and ultimately ready to be presented to financial institutions and investors. These projects, if implemented before 2020, have the potential to save more than 18 million tonnes of CO2 per year, equivalent to more than 30% of the total CO2 emissions of Denmark in 2010. This number represents a combined 25% CO2 emissions reduction for the 53 insular communities that have already finalised and are in the process of implementing their ISEAPs, meeting the main objective of the project, i.e. to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 20% by 2020.
- The development of a number of software tools and methodologies to help new signatories develop their own energy models, ISEAPs and Bankable Projects, as well as to learn how to use the tools in order to perform their own environmental and socio-economic impact assessments, bankability analyses, choose the appropriate financing tools and last but not least, implement mechanisms and tools in order to monitor the progress of implementation of their ISEAPs as well as the progress towards achieving at least 20% CO2 emissions reduction by 2020 as pledged in the Pact of Islands.
- The dissemination of the project's achievements at local, regional, national and European level through a number of dissemination tools (the website, the newsletters) and activities (local, regional and European seminars, events and conferences) that have raised the levels of awareness across Europe as to the specificities of insular communities and their strong will to fully participate in the fight against climate change;
- The recognition of the role of island communities in the mobilisation against global warming by the European Parliament which in its Declaration 37/2011 recognised the Pact of Islands as an EU initiative parallel to the Covenant of Mayors.
