The Comhairle is the local government authority for the Western Isles of Scotland, recognises the strategic importance of the region's renewable energy resource at local, national, UK and European levels. The sustainable harnessing of the region's renewable energy resource, notably on-shore and off-shore wind and marine energy, and the efficient use of energy is the basis of the "Green Council, Green Islands" strategic objective on the Comhairle's Corporate Strategy.
